Spells and Songs vs. Skills[]

Spells are magic incantations that fall into several categories:

Buffs[]

This category of spells and songs improve the chances of player characters in melee vs. mobs.  Examples of buffs are stone skin, armor, aid, bless and inspire.

Debuffs[]

This category of spells and songs reduces the chances of mobs in melee vs. players.  Examples of debuffs are blindness, poison, web, curse, hopelessness, enrage and fumble.

Enhancements[]

This category of spells and songs allow player characters to improve their awareness of the world, and accomplish feats they otherwise would be unable to complete.  Examples of enhancements are strength, detect invis, sense life, waterwalk, fly, and infrared vision.

Palliatives[]

This category of spells and songs allow players to heal or calm agressive mobs.  Examples of palliatives are cure serious, cure critical, heal, restore, rejuvenate, calm, pax, cure blindness, and remove poison.

Offensive[]

And finally offensive spells and songs allow players to defeat mobs before and during melee.   Some spells and songs can only be cast while not engaging a mob.  Check the help file in game to determine which spells and songs can be cast during melee.  Examples of offensives are flamestrike, color spray, petrify, meteor storm, brain implosion, and thermonuclear bomb.

Spells vs. Songs[]

Some mobs are resistant to magic and others are located in !magic rooms.  Songs allow the player character to engage these mobs with cast magic that is not hindered by !magic mob affects.
